Five Scriptures for Emotional Strength

I’m just going to put it out there- I’m a sensitive person. My feelings get hurt very easily because I really take what others say and how other act towards me to heart; even if what someone says is meant as a joke. Thankfully, when others hurt me God is always there to pick up the pieces! I know I’m not alone in this so here are some scriptures for emotional strength!

Scriptures for Emotional Strength: Psalm 119:28

Psalm 119:28 says, “I am weary from grief; strengthen me through your word (CSB).”

I wanted to start with this particular scripture for emotional strength because it really emphasizes what I said earlier about God picking up the pieces when others hurt you. Fill your mind and heart with God’s Word and you will haveScriptures for Emotional Strength the strength to face and overcome anything that comes your way.

Scriptures for Emotional Strength: Psalm 34:18

Psalm 34:18, “The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he saves those crushed in spirit (CSB).”

This scripture for emotional strength is such a beautiful reminder that God is always with those who are hurting emotionally! Sometimes, as Christians, we tend to brush off our emotional pain because we feel like it’s not important enough; I mean it’s not like we’re sick or have a lost loved one, etc. Psalm 34:18 reminds us that God cares when our feelings are hurt!

Scriptures for Emotional Strength: 1 Thessalonians 5:11

1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing (CSB).”

This may seem like an odd scripture to include in a post about having someone hurt your feelings. However, I’ve found that be kind to others and lifting them up rather than tearing them down always lifts my spirits. Also, as I mentioned, my feelings are hurt very easily. Often times people say something to me and they don’t even realize that what they said s hurtful. This makes me more intentional about what I say myself because I don’t want to be the cause of someone’s heartache or pain.

Scriptures for Emotional Strength: Isaiah 26:3

Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you (CSB).”

Whenever someone says or does something that hurts my feelings I tend to dwell on it; reply it in my mind over and over again and I always feel worse each time. The best way to combat this is to focus my mind on Jesus. Focus on God and you will find peace. I do this by praying, reciting scripture, and even singing praise and worship.

Scriptures for Emotional Strength: Psalm 55:22

Five Scriptures for Emotional StrengthPsalm 55:22, “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never allow the righteous to be shaken (CSB).”

I know there are a lot of scriptures from Psalms on here but I really had to include this one (plus, Psalms is great for a hurting heart)! Honestly, one of the best things you can do when someone hurts your feelings, whether intentionally or unintentionally, is to just hand it over to God. As I mentioned above, dwelling on the hurt and staying focused on whatever someone said/did only leads to more heartache; heartache that God doesn’t want us to go through. Put it all in God’s hands, trust him to take care of the situation, and be at peace.
