One of my most cherished parts of being single is how much time I have to pray over my future husband. I know it sounds odd, but praying over my future husband as a single woman has helped me to love a man I haven’t even met yet. Prayer is powerful and praying for your husband (whether you know him yet or not) is amazing not only for your husband but is powerfully effective in your life as well.

As simple as it seems, I know prayer can be tricky. Many of you may be wondering how to pray for your future husband. I choose to pray strategically and with a purpose, meaning I select scriptures to pray over different areas of my life. Today I’m sharing some of the scriptures I pray over my future husband and encourage you to develop a prayer strategy for your future (or current) husband as well. Just imagine how wonderful it would be to hear that your husband had been earnestly praying for you before you even met him!

How to Pray for Your Future Husband: Pray for God to Give Him Wisdom

Proverbs 4:6-7 (NIV), Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.  The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”

The first way you can pray for your future husband is by praying for him to embrace God’s wisdom. Pray God will give your future husband wisdom when it comes to spiritual matters, financial wisdom, education, wisdom in leading, etc.

How to Pray for Your Future Husband: Pray for His Relationship with God

1 Peter 5:6 (NIV), Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.”

I earnestly pray for my future husbands relationship with God. I pray he will humble himself and submit to God’s will instead of trying to make his own plan for life (because I know how well that works- not very) so that when it is time for us to meet we will both be ready;  I want my husband to be as passionate about Jesus as I am.

How to Pray for Your Future Husband: Pray for His Purity

1 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV), Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.

Another way I pray for my future husband is by praying for his purity. I am fully aware that my husband may not be a virgin when we get married; I acknowledge and accept this with no contempt. However, I pray that, despite what he may have done in the past, that he now focuses on Jesus rather than on satisfying his flesh. I know from experience how much it hurts when you realize you’ve been sinning against God, your self, and your future spouse. This is why I pray for God to give my husband the strength to flee sexual immorality.

How to Pray for Your Future Husband: Pray for His Strength

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV), ““Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

The fourth way I pray for my future husband is by praying for him to have strength. Let’s be honest, life is tough. It’s easy to get worn down by day to day life; to become overcome with stress. I pray that my husband will be find comfort in peace in Jesus Christ; that he will remember he isn’t doing life alone but with a Savior by his side.

How to Pray for Your Future Husband: Pray for His Protection

Isaiah 41:10 (NIV), So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Lastly, I pray for my future husband by praying for his protection. When I pray, I don’t just pray for his physical protection but also protection over every area of his life. One of the main prayers I have concerning this is for God to protect my future husband from Satan’s schemes. I know from personal experience what Satan is capable of and I understand how important it is to pray over my husband in this way.

These aren’t the only ways I pray for my future husband; I have several scriptures I pray over him. I encourage you to also begin praying over, not just your future husband, but everyone in your life in this manner. Learning to pray strategically is one of the best things to happen to me and I have seen God move mightily in my life and in my friends’ and family’s lives too!
